My favorite thing about this book was the obvious work the author put into this book. The history of Paige's bloodline obviously has a lot of thought put into it, as well as the world she goes to and the beautiful descriptions of it.
The whole world that most of the book took place in fascinated me — Hello? Gorgeous plants, mysterious people, and interesting customs? — and was what kept me reading on and on.
Paige, I'm sad to say, was not my favorite person. She constantly complained and whined about everything, and really killed the excitement of going to a new world with fascinating views. Yes, everything's different, and yes she has to adjust, but she did it in an entirely selfish way that I really couldn't connect with her.
Naialah was a really interesting character and I was — and am — really curious about her. Some things in this book didn't add up, but I'm sure they will be addressed in the following books.
Most of the conflicts weren't really resolved, but that's to be expected from the first book of the series. What really knocked this book down from four (or maybe 4.5) stars to three was Paige. I really didn't like her and could not connect with her.
But she's really the only thing (apart from a few inconsistencies) that I didn't like.
Black Moon is full of gorgeous imagery, a fascinating plot, and interesting secondary characters. I recommend it for people who like alternate worlds and many different creatures, as well as action and being left curious about what's going to happen next.

There were only three things Jessica loved

folding the never ending laundry of a six person family, Jessica enjoys playing
her clarinet in the community band or dancing like there is no tomorrow at
Zumba.
