Blog Tour: Not Pretty Enough (Giveaway)

Welcome to the Not Pretty Enough blog tour! This book was published August 1st, 2013 and is a YA Contemporary Comedy.

Not Pretty Enough by Jaimie Admans
“New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Lloyd Layton will know I exist. He once said three whole words to me, so this is obviously progress. If I don’t get a proper conversation out of him soon, then I’ll take my top off and streak through the cafeteria, because nobody could fail to notice these boobs.
2. I will not get expelled for streaking through the cafeteria.”

Those are the words that begin her mission.
Chessie is fourteen, not pretty enough, and very much in love. Lloyd Layton is hot, popular, and unaware of Chessie’s existence.
Her goal is clear: to get Lloyd to love her as much as she loves him, and she has exactly one year to do it.
As Chessie’s obsession with Lloyd reaches boiling point and she starts to spin a web of lies that spiral out of control, Lloyd turns out to be not quite the prince she thought he was. Can Chessie avoid the gathering storm before things go too far?
Age: Young Adult

There’s a common misconception that everyone wants big boobs. Let me tell you something: they don’t. If they’re fourteen and have a chest bigger than most of their school, including the teachers, they don’t. I’m a DD cup. People pay thousands of pounds to have their boobs enlarged to be smaller than mine. I can’t remember the last time I passed for a half fare on the bus. Or the last time a bus driver asked my face and not my chest for the fare. Everyone notices boobs when you’re my age. In fact, the only human in the world who doesn’t notice them is the one person I would quite like to notice them.

Lloyd Layton.

I’d quite like him to notice my personality too, but at this point just noticing my mere existence will do. If I have to use my boobs to lure him in, then so be it. The thing is, Lloyd Layton is hot, popular, and really, really tall. Taller than everyone else in our year. Taller than the teachers. Occasionally taller than the doorways. He knows what it’s like to be picked on for a physical attribute you can’t control. He’s different too. He knows what it’s like to be an outsider. Okay, when it comes to Lloyd Layton, he’s not really an outsider, because he’s absolutely gorgeous and loads of people like him, and I doubt anyone would dare to pick on him for anything because he could knock them flying with one swoop of his gigantic hands. But still. He’s taller than everyone and I have bigger boobs than everyone. We’re clearly a match made in heaven. It’s just a shame that he can’t see it yet.

But I’m sure he will one day soon.

I’m actually moving closer to that goal because he said one sentence to me back in December.

One sentence. Three small words. Not the three words I would like to hear him say, but I’ll take what I can get.

It was the last lesson of the last day of term before the Christmas holidays. Double technology. Not usually something to get excited about, but we came to the conclusion that the Christmas spirit had gone to Mr Vale’s head because he let us watch a movie in class instead of doing any work.

The Princess Bride.

We were allowed to pull chairs in around the TV and sit and watch a movie for two hours. Guess who pulled his chair in not that far away from mine?

Lloyd Layton.

I don’t know what happened next. I can’t explain it. It was like having an out of body experience. I’ll never understand how I had the courage to do it, but halfway through the film, I leaned over and said, “This is a good movie.” To Lloyd Layton. Better than that, he actually replied. He said, “Yes, it is.”

Three whole words.

It got even better than that again because after it was over and we were putting the chairs up on the desks, he smiled at me. A real smile. And it wasn’t at the person behind me because I was next to a wall. He smiled at me.

We ride slowly up the hill that leads to the river. Once we top the hill, I lean up to Lebis’s ear. “Let her go!”

Turning his head slightly, he asks, “Are you sure?”

“Yes!” I confirm.

“She is really fast,” he shouts proudly.

“Yes! Yes! I am sure! Let her go!” My excitement reassures him, and he gives his beautiful horse the command. Kelwyn does not hesitate. She lunges and we gallop down the hillside into the meadow. The mare runs so fast that the wind whistles as it passes my ears. The flowers part as we trample through them. Insects fly in all directions to avoid our sudden and unstoppable intrusion. The moment engulfs me, and I let go of Lebis to put my hands out. I lift my head to the sky and inhale all of the smells from the earth. I feel the sun trying to kiss my skin, but it cannot keep up with us. I squeeze Kelwyn tightly with my legs; her slender physique enables me to hold on tight. I wish that this moment of freedom will last forever.

My moment of enjoyment is short-lived, as the image of the beautiful man I saw earlier revisits me. But I decide immediately that I want to dwell on this moment, my moment with Lebis, his magnificent mare, and the beautiful meadow. I open my eyes and in an instant the image is gone, replaced by my beautiful surroundings. I lean forward and put my arms around Lebis’s waist, gently latching on to him. He looks back to me, and I see a smile come over him before he can turn away.

“There it is!” Lebis shouts. “Just beyond the tree line!” Kelwyn slows her run to a trot, then to a walk. “We will have to walk her in. She gets a little spooked by the shadows. Once we are in, she will be all right,” Lebis says, pulling back on her reins. He dismounts, drops the reins, and offers his hand to me. I slide down the side of the horse and land on the softest, greenest grass I have ever seen. As I look around, I realize that I have never been to this part of the river before. Usually my family goes to the waterfall by the cliffs. Here, though, the river runs through the forest, very secluded and peaceful.

“Hardheaded woman! Stay here—let me at least make sure you chose the right train.”

I watched him go and come back in less than three minutes. “All of the passengers are packed into the last two cars, and it looks like it's five guys. Two of them are with the conductors…the other three are guarding the passengers. It doesn’t seem like they plan on stopping anytime soon.”

“Okay, well…I’m going to give them a little hand,” I said.

“Annie, we really shouldn’t be here.”

“Oh, come on. Don’t you miss us working together?” I asked, placing my hands on his chest and staring into his eyes.

He raised an eyebrow. “Are you trying to manipulate me?”

“I wouldn’t say trying, I’m just doing the right thing.” The train hit a curve, and I lost my balance, making me fall into his arms. He felt so good. I held on tighter and kept eye contact.

“What you do to me,” he said, shaking his head. “You win, let’s do it.”

I beamed, “Okay.”

I ran all the way to the front of the train, channeling Beth’s speed. Jumping about twenty feet forward, I stood facing the train. A second later, I braced myself for the impact as the screeching sound sliced my ears. The hot metal indented its way around my hands, pushing me backwards for a while. A minute of this and I felt myself almost being crushed. I had been training with other Luminary powers lately, and right now, tapping into Beth’s speed was just draining me. Crap! I found it hard to focus, I was pretty sure I was going to be flattened by this train soon.

Blog Tour & Review: Atone (2 Giveaways)

Welcome to the Atone blog tour! This book is a Young Adult Fairy Tale Fantasy novel that was published June 30, 2013! We actually did a cover reveal back in June for them!
Atone: A Fairytale by Jessica Grey
Becca Ward knows that magic is real…

Two years ago not only had she and her best friend Alex found a real-life Sleeping Beauty in the middle of Los Angeles, they also discovered that they were powerful in their own right. They’ve managed to keep both their fae powers and their friend Lilia’s identity as a medieval princess a secret and live a normal life. Now their normalcy is threatened by the return of their former advisor at the Gem and Mineral Museum—and Becca’s least favorite person, Nicholas Hunt.

…and she’s about to find out that more than one fairy tale is true.

Nicholas has been obsessed with proving Lilia’s identity and the existence of magic. While working on an archeology dig he discovered an ancient fae artifact—a mirror that is imbued with a powerful protection spell that twists his obsession, and his body, until he is more beast than man. In order to protect her friends, Becca is forced to help him, and she is surprised to find that in spite of his outward appearance, Nicholas is no longer the beast she remembers. Will she let herself be the beauty that breaks the curse, or will she let her prejudice against him stop her from discovering true love?
Series: A Fairytale Trilogy, #2
Age: Young Adult; 14 years and up
Review: 5 butterflies
Let me preface by saying that I absolutely love fairytale remakes. I don’t care that I know pretty much how it’ll end—I just love finding out the unique twist the author puts on it.

And that’s how this book is. Though it is a remake of The Beauty and the Beast, the author manages to spin it in her own unique and fantastic way that I was absolutely entranced. I constantly wondered how the characters were going to get out of the messes they were in, and it most definitely wasn’t predictable.

Becca is a character I could definitely relate to. She felt as if she wasn’t as powerful as the rest of her friends, and she can’t see her potential to become a really strong fae. She was kind and empathetic, but also very stubborn when she wanted to be. She never once annoyed me and I completely agreed with everything she did. I was cheering for her the whole time and was incredibly glad with the way the book ended.

Nicholas was amazing as well. Though a bit cold-hearted in the beginning, he quickly changed with Becca and he became a great character that I adored! The changes were subtle and didn’t ever seem too abrupt or too rushed, and when I realized he had changed I was already half in love with him.

I loved how the author joined the fairytales with the fae world. Her own unique spin on the story was fantastic and the world she created enthralled me. I was quickly sucked into the story and did not once stop until I hit the Acknowledgements page.

Though this book is part of a series, you don’t need to read the first book to understand this book. I do recommend it, however, because I didn’t get to read the first book and I would have liked a bit more background information that I’m sure was told in the first book.

I honestly can’t wait to read the next and last book in this trilogy and am quickly going over to get Awake, the first book! I definitely recommend this book for people who love fairy tales, magic, fae, true love, adventures, and happy endings!

Book Blitz: Courtlight Series (2 Giveaways)

Welcome to the Courtlight Series book blitz!! This series is a Young Adult Fantasy series :)
Sworn to Raise by Terah Edun
Seventeen-year-old Ciardis has grown up in poverty, a cleaner in a small vale on the outskirts of the kingdom. But beneath her kingdom’s seemingly idyllic surface lies a hidden secret. Whispers of an inept crown Prince are growing ever louder—intensified by the five year anniversary of the soulbond initiations.

Amidst scandalous whispers, Ciardis finds herself chosen to train for the Companion’s Guild. She leaves her home and sets off on a personal journey to become a Court Companion. A position she’d never thought possible for a lowly servant to obtain, she must prove that she has the skills to attract a Patron.

But she must master those skills quickly. If the legends are true, only Ciardis can harness the power to raise a Prince in an Imperial Court sworn to bring him down.

This sensational series debut melds intricate storylines with remarkable characters and unforgettable magic. Sworn To Raise is ideal for fans of Kristin Cashore, Michelle Sagara, and Maria Snyder.
Series: Courtlight, #1
Age: Young Adult

“Where have you been?” said Ciardis, not looking up. The blood had already turned the bucket water red, though there were still spots to clean up. She didn’t see Stephanie watching her as she finished cleaning off the cross bolt that Stephanie had removed from the dead man’s chest with a handkerchief from Ciardis’s nightstand.

“Away,” the woman said. “Training.”

“With whom?”

“You ask a lot of questions.”

“And you evade all of my answers,” said Ciardis pointedly.

She put the clean crossbolt back into the bow and primed it to fire.

“Not unintentionally.”

Ciardis dropped the last rag in the bucket and raised an irritated eyebrow.

“Look, you come in here criticizing the way I handle things—”

“And saved your life.”

“And want me to do things your way,” Ciardis continued without pause. “But you won’t tell me what the way is or how you knew about the duke’s man.”

Standing up, Stephanie tossed her an irritated look. “The duke’s man was obvious—the Duke of Cinnis hasn’t been subtle in his loathing of you ever since you revealed that he cheated on his wife.”

“Why does everyone focus on that?” Ciardis said, her temper rising, “He was trying to assassinate Sebastian, but does anyone mention that? No! It’s always, ‘Oh, that evil Ciardis, she exposed him in bed with another woman.’”
Sworn to Transfer by Tarah Edun
Eighteen-year-old companion trainee Ciardis Weathervane has won the friendship of the royal heir and saved his claim to the throne. Yet her interference in the inheritance rights leaves more harm done than good. With the death of the Princess Heir, the Ameles forest - the home of the kith, is dying.

The inhabitants of the forest, magic-wielding non-humans, are defiant. They have not forgotten their long struggles nor are they content to watch as the last of their lands perish. As humans begin to die in gruesome deaths, the Emperor dispatches the royal heir to the forests with the solution to the kith concerns.

With enemies closing ranks in Sandrin, Ciardis can little afford to leave the city’s nest of vipers to take on a new task. But she’s given no choice when her loyalty to the crown and courts are called into question.

To keep the Companions’ Guild happy and the favor of the Imperial Court, Ciardis will be tested in frightening new ways, especially when she’s faced with an obstacle that could risk the lives of her friends and the family she never thought she had.

This second novel continues the story of Ciardis Weathervane from Sworn To Raise.

Book Blitz: Contingency & Relativity (2 Giveaways)

Welcome to the Contingency & Relativity book blitz! These two books are part of Sage Hannigan Time Warper series, which is a New Adult Time-Travel series!

Contingency by Peggy Martinez
Eighteen-year-old Sage Hannigan wants to get back to her own time, preferably one that hasn’t been destroyed by an underworld plot brewing in Edwardian-era South Carolina. How hard can it be?

All she has to do is:

1. Learn to use newly acquired warping skills to bend time to her will.
2. Take out a few rogue vampires.
3. Join an ancient secret society.
4. Figure out who is putting the time stream in jeopardy.
5. Find and maim whoever invented the corset.

Sage never asked to be chosen by the Druid Priestess, Amerach, to become a Warper. She also never asked to have the future hanging on her shoulders or to warp a hundred years into the past. She certainly never asked to meet Dr. Aldwin Blake, who would make her question her desire to get back to her own time. But if she fails her mission, people will die, history will change, and the present she wishes to return to will be no more.
Series: Sage Hannigan Time Warper, #1
Age: New Adult
Book links: Goodreads * Amazon * B&N

By the time I struggled out of the corset by myself—which took entirely too long, and I’m not certain, but the whole process may have involved some foul language—washed my face in a water basin, and finally laid down on my bed, I was unable to quiet the tornado of emotions and thoughts swirling around in my head. I still wanted to cling to the hope that if I went to sleep that night, I’d wake up safe and sound back in my apartment in 2004 and I’d laugh my butt off at the ridiculously elaborate dream I’d had. But, as much as I craved that, I was coming to the conclusion that my reality was much, much more complicated. Not only did I find out I had time traveled to a different time and that vampires were real, but I’d also found out I’d been chosen to wield powers and help fight the forces of evil. I was so in over my head. I just hoped I could live up to all the expectations and do whatever I had to do to get back to my time.
Relativity by Peggy Martinez
Three months after Sage Hannigan time warps a hundred years into the past and saves the future as we know it, she is still trying to come to grips with all the has gained…and all that she has lost. All of her searching hasn’t turned up Cerberus Society or any creatures of the night and she’s beginning to wonder if she’s gone crazy after all. The only things keeping her grounded are her sparring sessions with Matt and her weekly ritual of scouring the city for low lives to kick the crap out of, and even that can’t keep her dreams free of the heartache and bitter sweet memories she has come to loath and…to cherish. When blasts from the past; good, bad, and evil, come knocking on her door, will she be able to do what she has to even if it means having her barely-healing heart ripped to shreds?

Book Blitz: Where My Heart Breaks (Giveaway)

Welcome to the Where My Heart Breaks book blitz! This book is a New Adult Contemporary Romance that was published August 30th, 2013!

Guest Post

If you are a fan of Stephen King or Quentin Tarantino, you may have noticed that they both seem to enjoy writing little parts for themselves into their movies. It’s always interesting for me to observe the roles that they chose for themselves inside the stories that they tell.

Recently, I realized that I inadvertently had done a similar thing while writing Where My Heart Breaks. My family and friends often ask me if I base any of my story characters on anyone in real life. The answer is usually no. (And even if it wasn’t, I don’t think I’d tell them.) In this instance though, I realized that isn’t completely true.

People who know me know that I have a thing for big, old houses. It’s an all-encompassing love affair to be honest. I drag my husband sightseeing to any and every historical mansion that I can find. Thank goodness he’s a good sport. There’s something about being able to feel like you can almost touch the past inside those houses that gets me every time. It amazes me to see how people lived before, especially those of privilege and wealth.

A common theme in many of the stories I write is that I’ll feature a location that is a big old mansion. Where My Heart Breaks is no exception. In it the fictional Willoughby Inn is brought to life. I describe this location as a southern style plantation home, just like the one you think about in the movies. (Imagine my disappointment when last summer, during a multi-plantation tour outside of Charleston, I found out that type of home in the old South was a myth propagated by Hollywood.)

Where My Heart Breaks is set in North Carolina, and so I was able to draw on local inspiration for the Willoughby Inn as well. The Biltmore, which is touted as America’s largest home, can be found in the foothills of the mountains in Asheville, NC. While the Willoughby Inn of my novel isn’t nearly as large as the Biltmore, the surrounding landscape did heavily influence it. The fictional towns of Bleckerville and Cheshire are located west of Asheville.

So here’s where I found myself after writing the book.

One thing that isn’t mentioned in the blurb is there is a story within a story woven into the plot. Readers will discover that the title of the book is actually based on a fictional book that was written by a man who was a guest at the Willoughby Inn one summer many years ago. His book became famous and is studied by Kate and Reed throughout the course of the novel. The author of that book I named Walter Moolen.

Walter Moolen clearly had a love of big, old houses and was inspired enough to write a story set in one of them. Just like me.

If Where My Heart Breaks were ever made into a movie, I’d ask the screenwriter to revise Walter Moolen’s character into a female role, and then that would be the small role I’d want to play. I figure I’d be a shoe-in for the part. :)

Where My Heart Breaks by Ivy Sinclair
If there were a course in screwing up your life, Kate Spivey would get an A+.

Trust is in short supply for Kate at the start of the summer before her senior year of college. Her parents sentenced her to spend it under the watchful eye of her aunt at the famous Willoughby Inn. It was further proof that she was a prisoner in, and not the decision maker of, her life. Nothing she does is good enough to prove that she learned from the mistakes of her past.

Almost immediately, Kate finds that her new summer home holds another person who understands the unfairness of her situation better than most. Reed Black has had his own share of tragedy and regrets, but instead of trying to fight his reputation, he embraced it.

Sparks fly between Kate and Reed, but Kate needs to steer clear of Reed if she wants to regain control of her future. He is one temptation she can't afford to indulge in, although fate seems to have other ideas for both of them.

Welcome to the Jump Zone book blitz! This book is a New Adult Dystopian Romance that is published today!!

Jump Zone by Wylie Snow
All Cleo wants, all she’s ever wanted, is the acceptance of her tribe and the love of her family... and she almost dies trying to earn it. But the man who saved her, who found beauty in her flaws and loved her without condition, has cruelly betrayed her, and she’s dying all over again.

Was it all lies? His words, his promises, his kisses? Lost in unfamiliar territory, Cleo will fight the forces that conspire to destroy her homeland, even if she has to do it alone.

Libra longs for freedom—from prison, from pretense, and from his birthright... but he’s caught in a political game where only greed and power can win, and Cleo Rush is the pawn. How much is he willing to sacrifice for liberty? His morals, his principles, the woman he loves? No matter which path he chooses, people will die, their blood on his hands. And it could be hers.

Author Interview

What’s the scoop on the romance? Why can’t the hero and heroine get on with their sweet loving?

You’d think, since he saved her life, that Cleo would instantly fall into Libra’s arms in a heap of grateful, quivering lady-love. The physical chemistry is undeniable, but she doesn’t trust the urbanite as far as she could spit. Cleo is a ‘triber’ from the Taiga forest and Libra hails from the city of Gomeda. They have some serious misconceptions to overcome and it doesn’t help that they’re both lying through their teeth about, well,… everything.

What the heck is a Taiga?

Also known as a boreal forest, the Taiga (pronounced ty-guh) is the world’s largest land biome and comprises 29% of the world’s forest. It circles the globe, with the largest bits located in Russia and Canada. The winters are long, cold and harsh. In Jump Zone, the Taiga is divided into regional tribes named for common animals like wolverine, beaver, bear, wolf, moose, etc... Survivalists by nature, the tribers are protective of their lands, and their resources. Especially their energy source. Shhh… spoilers!

What makes Jump Zone’s hero sexy?

Libra is the Robin Hood of Gomeda. Born into a wealthy, powerful family, he eschews his high-born status and fights for the marginalized citizens living in the slums of Gomeda. His idealism gets him a sentence of hard labor in the penal colony but it also gives him the hardened edge he needs to survive the coming turmoil.

Fave line?

“For the record, I’ve never killed another human being. Not even a Banger.” Cleo Rush says this when defending her reputation against Libra’s assumptions that she’s some kind of savage. Second fave is, “You’ve never had bacon? You poor, deprived soul.” Because… obviously!

Where did you get the idea for your story?

I had an idea for a post-apocalyptic Romeo and Juliet type of story but the world didn’t begin building in my head until a family vacation took us on a drive through Northern Ontario. The untamed beauty of the landscape literally took my breath away. Miles and miles of uninhabited land, a stunning palette of greens and dark blues, harsh rocky outcrops. I thought, “What if I had to survive out here…”

Is this a stand-alone or part of a series?

Cleo Falls is book one of the Jump Zone trilogy. Libra Rising is scheduled to release in December 2013, followed by the series conclusion in the spring of 2014.

About the Author

Almost every author says they wanted to write from a very early age. Not me. I wanted to be a detective like Nancy Drew, or a wildlife expert like Jim Fowler or an archaeologist like Indiana Jones. Or have my own island resort and make fantasies come true!

I didn't do too badly with any of those...
I married a detective, worked in a zoo, explored ship wrecks instead of old ruins, and spent 18 glorious years living on a sunny island.

As for those fantasies...
I also write erotic romance as Wylie Kinson.
Happy reading!
