Book Blitz: Breaking the Storm (2 Giveaways)

Welcome to the book blitz for Breaking The Storm! This book is a New Adult Paranormal Romance novel that came out August 6th, 2013.

Breaking the Storm by Sedona Venez
I wanted Knox. There was no need to deny that fact.

Knox was the type of guy you gravitated to, who stood out in the crowd. It wasn’t just his classically good-looking features and perpetual five o’clock shadow. It was his raw energy that entranced me, that made me feel like a giggly, fumbling high school girl, happy to be in his presence.

Yes, there’s no denying it, front man Knox Gunner was a sexy badass.

It didn’t matter that he initially thought I was some bored, rich girl trying to live out some wild fantasy of being with a starving musician. It was uncomplicated and that’s what we both wanted. At least that’s what I convinced myself. I wasn’t ready to admit to myself that my feelings for Knox were getting dangerously deep—waiting to lay siege on my heart. I was falling for him… and this was dangerous. The rules were clear: falling in love would obligate me to expose what I truly was, setting in motion his slow march to death.
Series: Credence Curse, #1
Age: New Adult
Book links: Goodreads * Amazon * B&N

I instantly recognized the heavy, sensuous beat of the music as it thumped and echoed throughout the room. Damn those two. They picked Knox’s hit single for me to dance to. I blew out anxiously, feeling like I was about to throw up. Damn, maybe I should just concede victory to Knox and go home with my tail between my legs. That’s when I saw Knox with his wide muscular back deliberately turned away from me, in what I knew was an intentional you’re not even worth paying attention to slap in the face. Okay, Mr. Gunner, it’s time to wipe that fucking disdain from your face.

“Let’s get ready to rumble… New York style,” I mumbled under my breath as I paraded about a bit before strutting my stuff. Releasing all of the tension, my body relaxed, fully taking in the magnitude of the utter power and sexiness of my captive audience. Unleashed dominance pulsed around me. Yep, I could do this. It was Seduction 101, and from the lustful hooded stares of the men that were now sitting up at attention, they were very interested in seeing exactly what I brought to the freaky boardroom.

Licking my lips seductively, I flipped my hair, strutting forward with a deliberate sway to my hips. Chest out. Head up. My gaze swept to every man as a hush filled the room. Knox turned around, giving me a blank stare.

The lights flashed while the music wove a hard rhythm around me. I loosened the tie, running it through my hands seductively, then over my shoulders. A man with sexy black hair peppered with gray at the temple beckoned me over with a nod. Placing one foot directly in front of the other, I strutted over, proud and sexy.

Twirling the tie in my hand a couple of times before leaning forward with my stomach in and ass out, I swung the tie around his neck to draw him close. Gracefully swaying my hips from left to right as his eyes followed my hips in perfect synchrony. Releasing my grip on the tie and with a simple lift of my leg, my heel dug into his wide, muscular shoulder. His eyes dilated, turning a light yellow. A tiger-shifter. Bumping my hips sensually, I glanced at the wide-screen. The bid was at $80,000.

“Absolutely beautiful,” he said with a sexy Texas drawl. He pressed the button, moving the highest bid to $110,000. “You, I definitely want.”

“Tiger, you might be asking for way more trouble than you can handle,” I responded with a wink before digging my heel deliberately farther into his broad shoulder, knowing that the pinch of my heel would give him what he wanted—pain. A growl rumbled deep in his chest, his hands clenching his glass. Just like I thought, the tiger was into pain. He pressed the bid button again.

Cover Reveal: Chasing Angel

Welcome to the cover reveal for Chasing Angel, a Young Adult Paranormal Romance! This cover was designed by Kelly Walker, and the book is set to come out in 2014.
Chasing Angel by J.L. Weil
Chase Winters is one of a kind.

That doesn’t mean he still doesn’t get on my nerves more days than not, but his arrogance is starting to be sexy. Together our bond grows stronger, and so do we.

Just as we hurdle one obstacle, two or three more pop up. Go figure. It isn’t enough that Emma once again hates our guts, now Travis has decided to go all demon-zoid on us. I could hardly blame him though; he had lost the girl of his dreams—again.

After everything that we have endured, I am not the same girl anymore. Not since the day I met Chase. The icing on the cake—there is a new player in town and he is not human. Hell has decided to pay Spring Valley a visit, and Chase and I are their first stop. Our quiet little town was about to shatter.

Of course there is also our rare bond to factor into all of this, and the pesky last piece. Or maybe it isn’t as pesky as it is combustible.

Soul. Heart. Body.

Oh dear God…

Guilt makes my hands shake, so I press them to the car’s window to hold them steady and bow my head. “This is just so hard. I’m trying to be understanding.”

Ethan’s warm hands cover mine, and he whispers in my ear, “It drives me nuts to see you with another guy, even if it’s just something as simple as riding together to play soccer. I know exactly what he’s thinking. I know, because I can’t help but want you more when I see you all sweaty and running your heart out.” He pauses to press his lips to my throat, murmuring, “Mmmm, salty and sweet.”

Tilting my head, I give him access to my neck. I absorb the feel of his hard frame behind me, holding me up and supporting me, even for a few seconds. This isn’t full on intimacy. At least I tell myself that as my body yields to his.

“I miss touching you so much.” His lips slide up my throat and his fingers fold tight around mine, locking our left hands against the cold glass. I swallow hard, my heart hammering when his other hand falls to my hip to press me closer.

Running hard has intensified Ethan’s appealing smell. Or maybe it’s hearing him say how much it bothers him to see me with someone else that amps my attraction. All I know is…I don’t notice the cold air or the thin layer of snow beneath our feet. His heat and intensity seduce me, making me want him so much my insides quiver and my nerves tingle with excitement.

I press my free hand to his jaw, enjoying the feel of his five o’clock shadow against my fingers. Ethan whispers my name and slides his hand up my shirt. My muscles flex as his fingertips trace slowly along my belly until they come to rest over my thrumming heart, and his thumb slides under my bra clasp. Skin to skin. Warmth melding into warmth. “My heart,” he rasps before kissing my jaw and pressing his fingers closer, locking me against him.

Book Blitz: The Gravity Between Us (2 Giveaways)

Welcome to the book blitz for The Gravity Between Us!! This book is a New Adult Contemporary Romance that is being published today!!

Guest Post

I love books. And by love, I mean I have an unhealthy obsession with them. One time, I started reading a book very late in the evening and became so enamored with the story—or more accurately, the characters—that I called in sick to work the next morning just so I could finish reading in one sitting. Falling so deeply in love with the characters in that book got me thinking: If I could have dinner with three fictional book characters, who would I choose and why? (Side note: I decided to limit myself to three characters, or else I’d be hosting a fictional rager party, rather than a nice sit-down meal.)

My first dinner guest would be my favorite Dickens character of all time, Oliver Twist. I think my reasoning behind this choice will be fairly obvious to anyone who has read the book. Oliver is so lovably naive, and so in need of someone to listen to and care about him throughout nearly the entire novel (ending not withstanding), that I would relish the opportunity. Of course, having him as a dinner guest would undoubtedly result in me saying, “Please, let me adopt you, because the world you live in just plain sucks. I’ll love you and feed you and you can always, always have some more!” So, ultimately, lil’ Olly would end up being the forever-kind of guest, rather than just a visitor.

For my second guest, I’d have to go with Ellie Linton of John Marsden’s Tomorrow series. Through seven books, poor Ellie and the rest of her teenage friends are busy fighting a guerilla-style war (and also trying to keep themselves from getting killed) when their homeland of Australia is invaded by foreign forces. I’d love to transport all eight of the characters in this book out of their war-torn world and into the safety of my kitchen, if not for an extended period of time, then at least for one evening sans constant bombing. Unfortunately, I can only choose one character. I figured I’d go with Ellie, since she is the narrator and hands-down leader of the small insurgency.

My third choice would be Amber Gray from Malinda Lo’s Adaptation series. This pick is vastly different from the rest; firstly, because she is the only secondary character on the guest list. Secondly, I’d invite her not because she’s in need of some TLC, but because she is one of the coolest female characters I’ve seen in a YA novel in a long time. Confident, intelligent and alluring, I think I’d be able to have an awesome, if flirty, conversation with her. Of course, that isn’t to say that Amber doesn’t have her own issues. She’s got a bit of a problem with dishonesty (at least in AdaptationInheritance is a different story entirely). But there is a very interesting explanation for her half-truths. So, those are the three book characters I’d invite to dinner. Who would you choose?

The headache started, pounding to the rhythm of my heartbeat. I silently begged to faint, but the power demands payment. There is no credit card or forgiveness for changing the strings of time. It doesn't care I only braided a mere twenty minutes. The ledger must always remain in the black. “Hey, good looking,” a masculine voice called.

Bloody hell. I glanced around, hoping someone else pulled up and captured the guy's attention. No such luck. The truck and Ferrari remained the only two cars at the pumps. I cursed silently while ignoring him. The earthy smell surrounded me, filled with green things, sun and a summer's breeze.

“Do you ignore everyone?”

I jumped. I turned to find a tall, muscular, handsome male. Long brown hair streaked with various shades of silver, and a well-trimmed gray beard carted streaks of brunette, giving the impression of a mature man. He wore a black, faded AC/DC t-shirt, shabby blue jeans and black boots. His ice blue eyes caught my attention and held it.

“I haven’t seen you in a while, Andrés. How have you been?”

My hands go clammy as I give the military doctor a blank stare. Why did I think it would be a good idea to come here? Oh, yeah, closure. That’s what I kept telling myself on the drive to the VA hospital. I wanted to let Doctor Barnes know I don’t need to see him anymore.

Because I don’t. I’m better now.

I wipe my hands on my jeans, trying to get rid of the excess moisture. It must be hot in here. I have no reason to sweat. No reason at all.

“I figured as much.” He crosses one leg over his knee, looking casual as he leans back against the upholstered leather chair, but there’s still that expectant look in his eyes. Despite the glare on the doctor’s glasses, I can see the man’s impatience. “How else have you been?”

This shrink is never one to waste time. He’s not afraid to pressure me to get to the point, which is one reason I have always liked him.

I sip from my water bottle, clear my throat, and then answer. “I haven’t had a bad dream in months.”

After the roadside bomb had flipped our truck and killed my best friend in Afghanistan, I couldn’t escape the nightmares that plagued me. Although the occurrence of those dreams slowed after I met Christina, they completely stopped three months ago, after my best friend’s wife, Letty, contacted me on Facebook. She’d written me a long letter apologizing for blaming me for James’s death. She’d even invited me to San Antonio for her youngest son’s birthday party. It seems I just needed Letty’s forgiveness for the nightmares to stop.

“That’s great news.” The doctor smiles wider this time.

I can tell this smile is genuine, and I release a pent-up breath of air.

Then the doctor hits me with the next question. “Are you adjusting to life as a civilian?”

“Oh, yeah.” I nod before sticking one clammy hand in my pants pocket. The little velvet pouch is still there, and though it takes up no more room than a wadded-up tissue, it feels heavy. The weight of it presses into my thigh. What’s worse is, the strain is somehow tethered to an invisible noose that is wrapped around my neck. Each day the pouch feels heavier, and the noose feels tighter, so tight I feel I may suffocate from the pressure. “I’m learning how to take over my uncle’s businesses.” I say the words I rehearsed on the drive over. “Working out and….” I pause and finger the pouch again. “I met a girl.”

I shift in my seat, trying to suppress my arousal as I envision last night in bed, when Christina’s long auburn hair had been fanned around my thighs. I can’t forget the expression in her emerald eyes when she looked up at me, flashing that seductive smile right before she took me in her mouth.

“You sound hesitant to talk about her. Are you having second thoughts?”

“No, never.” I vehemently shake my head before I force myself to stop.

Doctor Barnes has that look in his eyes again. Damn, he’s too smart for his own good. I remind myself I need to find a new shrink, maybe one a little less observant. Maybe one who nods and agrees with everything I say.

I avert my gaze, but I can’t escape the feeling Doctor Barnes can see through me, straight into my soul. But I came here to talk, didn’t I? No. I came here to tell the doctor I no longer need him, as soon as I get help with this one little problem.

I look the doctor in the eyes, take a shaky breath, and slowly exhale, even though the invisible noose is making it harder to breathe. “Ever since we moved in together, my family has been pressuring us to get married.”

He gives me a pointed look. “How do you feel about marriage?”

I answer without hesitation. “I love her. I’ll do anything to marry her. I even had a ring made, but I don’t think I have the nerve to pop the question.”

I shouldn’t have asked Tia for my grandmother’s ring. That was a bad idea. A very bad idea. We’ve only been together six months, and I’ll scare her off. Then I remember Tia wagging a finger in my face and clucking her tongue, telling me the church frowns on sex out of wedlock.

I don’t want to offend God, but I don’t want to lose Christina, either. Her parents were unloving and abusive. How can she possibly be ready for marriage and family after what she’s been through?

Slowly, I pull the velvet pouch out of my pocket, loosen the drawstring, and dump the ring in my palm. I hold the shining silver band beneath the soft glow of the overhead lights.

“The emeralds came from my grandmother’s wedding band,” I say to the doctor as I press the ring between the tips of my fingers. “They’re the same color as Christina’s eyes.”

“You said you don’t have the nerve to ask her,” he asks in an annoyingly impartial monotone. “Why?”

“It’s just….” I swallow against the tightening knot around my throat as I place the ring back in the pouch. “I’m afraid she won’t say yes.”

About the Author

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. Cover Reveal: What Remains

Welcome to the cover reveal for What Remains, designed by Paper and Sage Design! This book is an Adult Post-Apocalyptic novel that is set to come out October 15, 2013!
What Remains by Nicole R. Taylor
I’d never known true darkness until the lights went out.
I had never known what it was to be hungry.
Everyone I ever knew was dead. If they weren’t, then they wished they were.
I know I did.

Prue Ashford has been surviving alone in the Australian bush for the last three years. After an unknown virus wiped out most of the human population, she escaped the chaos and hid. Every town and city was locked down into quarantine, but that only led to the inevitable. Death.
Living off the land, avoiding other survivors turned bad, she’s led a lonely life, surviving on the edge of a very narrow cliff. The moment she begins to lose hope is when she meets the handsome and enigmatic, Shaw.
He’s the first human being she’s seen in three years that hasn’t tried to kill her and she doesn’t dare to hope. She’d given up finding anyone alive that still had goodness inside of them.
Her only option if she wants to live is to trust Shaw and he takes her to the isolated community he calls home. Being among people again is it’s own challenge and Prue finds herself tested on every front. Making friends was never easy for her and making them after an apocalypse is even harder.
Hannah, the town’s apprentice doctor, becomes the closest thing Prue has to a best friend and Nan fast becomes her surrogate mother. Shaw brings feelings to the surface that she would rather forget and Eva, the mayor’s daughter, seems hell bent on making her life a living hell.
In the end, Prue must make a decision. Stay in the town at the end of the world and learn how to love again, or go back into the wasteland of human civilisation and go it alone.

What Remains is a gritty story of human survival. When society crumbles and chaos reigns, people become desperate. They turn to violence and resort to extreme measures to go on living. Parts of this story may be confronting for some people. It contains violent situations staged by desperate people, the extremes that people go to to show their love and a dose of bad language. It’s recommended for readers 18 and up.

Author Interview

Q: Come As You Are is the title of a Nirvana song. What does the song have to do with the book?

Theresa: A lot. I went back and forth about mentioning Nirvana in the blurb for Come As You Are. I decided against it after reading the article going around about the twenty-something girl who'd recently written a letter to Nirvana, asking if they could play at…homecoming, maybe? And so I thought I'd better not mention Nirvana. Maybe younger readers don't know much about Nirvana. But reviewers are mentioning the band, and that's good! Yes, there's definitely a strong Nirvana…center.

The weird thing is that I had no idea In Utero was being reissued this year until the book was almost done. That was just serendipity. Molly, the heroine, even writes a story for one of her University of Minnesota classes about the recording of In Utero.

There are other musical nods in the book, some obscure and some not so obscure. There's one line in particular that I've wondered if people will get, and it's in reference to Big Star. If you pick up on it let me know.

Q: How did you happen to write this book?

Theresa: About seven or eight years ago I asked my then editor what she thought about my writing a book, not about high-school kids (she'd mentioned a YA to me), but about twenty-something college students. Because I could definitely see myself doing that. She said there was no market for books featuring people in their twenties, and those people didn't have time to read anyway.

Enter the New Adult genre.

Back when I wrote romance fulltime some readers complained that my writing was too full of angst and the characters were too wounded, so New Adult seemed a logical place for me.

Angst aside, I never went to college so I have a particular fascination with college life. I suppose a romanticized fascination. And I love that age. Plus, I recently wrote a novella called The Girl with the Cat Tattoo that got great reviews and notice. And in thinking about that book… It almost felt a bit NA even though it didn't really contain all of the elements and the main characters were a little bit too old — in their early thirties. But Melody could have easily been an NA character. And the follow-up book, The Geek with the Cat Tattoo, features people in their late twenties. So I was kind of dancing on the fringes of NA, but just didn't know it.

Q: What are you working on now?

Theresa: I hope to get the second cat book done within a few months, and I have an Anne Frasier suspense called Stay Dead (sequel to Play Dead) coming out in April. And I’m considering writing another NA, this one featuring Rose, Molly's best friend from Come As You Are. Oh, and I'm thinking about writing another suspense in my Dead series. So many ideas; not enough time.
